‘Get Active’ with new running opportunities in Wiltshire

Wiltshire Council has launched a new running programme called ‘Get Active’, which aims to increase opportunities to participate in this health beneficial and sociable activity. In association with Wiltshire and Swindon Sports Partnership, Swindon Borough Council, Run England and through funding provided by Sport England, ‘Get Active’ engages with local groups to help develop new, beginner running opportunities.

The project aims to train run leaders, provide support and assistance to new groups, help the development of existing running clubs and promote running across the county. Most importantly the project improves access to running, encouraging those who have previously not had the confidence to participate.

Marlborough Running Club is a great club to join, it encourages runners of all ages and speeds, and it has a good social life as well.

Wiltshire is also able to boast an incredible 24 running groups across the county and groups such as Avon Valley Runners, Chippenham Harriers and Westbury Running Club have all launched new beginner running sessions, in line with this new project. However, it is not only well established clubs who are involved, new groups in Downton, Durrington and Marlborough are all set to start shortly.
