New Bishop of Ramsbury
As Ogbourne St.George is part of the See of Ramsbury, we’d like to join with Roger Powell in welcoming our new Bishop of Ramsbury, the Revd Canon Dr Edward Condry.
The Right Reverend Dr Edward Condry, 59, is the former Canon Residentiary, Treasurer and Director of Education in Canterbury Cathedral. He succeeds the Right Reverend Stephen Conway, now the Bishop of Ely.
He studied first at the University of East Anglia and then at Exeter College, Oxford, before training for ordination at Lincoln Theological College. He also holds an MBA from the Open University.
Bishop Condry served his first curacy at Weston Favell in Peterborough Diocese from 1982 to 1985. He was a vicar in Bloxham with Milcombe and South Newington in the Oxford Diocese from 1985 to 1993.
He moved to the Diocese of Coventry in 1993, becoming Team Rector at Rugby until 2002, when he became Director of Post-Ordinand Training and Canon Residentiary at Canterbury Cathedral. He was also Treasurer and Director of Education in Canterbury Cathedral from 2006.
The Bishop is a keen sportsman, having played rugby for local sides, completed ten marathons and played five-a-side football with friends. He now concentrates on cycling, running and rowing, competing in the British Indoor Rowing Championships. He was a member of Team GB for the 2006 World Championships in Boston, USA.
In July 2012, he cycled 1500 miles from Olympia in Greece, across to Italy over the Gotthard Pass and up through eastern France to the Olympic stadium in London. He completed the trip successfully, along with friends and his two sons, raising over £55,000 for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance.
