Guiding and Scouting Movements

Early in 2012, a Brownie group started in Ogbourne St.George. It meets in the School Hall every Tuesday from 5.15pm till 7.15pm (excluding holidays). It is for girls aged 7-10 with a few spaces left. Contact the school for more details.

From 11th September 2012, there will also be a Rainbows unit in Ogbourne St George. Rainbows is part of the Girlguiding network for girls aged 5-7. They will be meeting every Tuesday from 4.30-5.30. Places are limited, so it is on a first come first served basis. Contact Lou Webb for further details.

Here are the Brownies and Rainbows together at the Rememberance Day Service 2012.

The village is not yet supporting a Cub Pack, Scout Troop or Guides. Children attend either Aldbourne, Chiseldon or Marlborough.

Scouting offers fun, challenge and everyday adventure to 400,000 girls and boys across the UK. Offering over 200 different activities from abseiling and archery to drama, street sports and water zorbing, Scouting helps 6-25 year olds grow in confidence, achieve their full potential and become active members of their communities.

The Programme is a seamless progression of training, activities and awards for young people aged 6 to 25. The Programme is delivered in five age groups, called Sections.
- Beaver Scouts (6-8 years)
- Cub Scouts (8-10½ years)
- Scouts (10½-14 years)
- Explorer Scouts (14-18 years)
- Scout Network (18-25 years)

The Programme aims to help young people to grow in a number of personal development areas to ensure the young people themselves really are ‘learning by doing.’ie camping, abseiling, climbing, shooting, archery, canoeing, sailing, tracking, night hikes, cooking and of course making fires :-)
